Liberte: Redefining Freedom in Restaurant Design

A Modern Interpretation of Freedom

Liberte, a restaurant designed by Variety Enterprise Co., Ltd, breaks free from the conventional norms of restaurant design. Without commonly seen elements at the entrance, the white wall immediately captures the attention of visitors. The waterscape surrounding the entrance gives a hint of space transitioning, inviting guests to turn and walk a few steps to enter a special world.

The interior of Liberte is defined by a fluid arc wall that extends from the ceiling to the floor. This unique design element creates a sense of continuity and movement throughout the space. The absence of a terminated line in the arc wall adds to the feeling of freedom and openness.

The design team took inspiration from theater seating for the layout of the restaurant. The seats are carefully positioned to ensure optimal viewing angles and comfortable dining experiences. The color palette of several gray-beige and white tones with texture is derived from the aesthetic tone of Takeda plate decoration, creating an elegant and harmonious ambiance.

With meticulous attention to detail, the size of the seats and the transmission of light were carefully measured to enhance the overall dining experience. The seats are strategically placed at an appropriate distance from the kitchen, allowing staff to easily support the chefs or take a break. This thoughtful layout not only adds to the elegance and freedom of the space but also ensures efficient operations.

Liberte restaurant, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, was completed in December 2020. Throughout the design process, the team faced various challenges. The junctions where light meets the space were carefully crafted to create a dignified atmosphere, as if defying gravity. The elements may seem simple, but they maintain a delicate balance, reminiscent of calligraphy - simple yet natural.

Recognized for its exceptional design, Liberte was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Liberte's design not only enhances the quality of life but also contributes to making the world a better place.
